Switching from Day One to KringP-Cortex: Bring Your Whole Journal
If you've been journaling in Day One for years, the thought of switching apps usually dies at one question: what happens to everything I've already written? Here's the answer: it comes with you. Every entry, every date, every photo.
Step 1: Export from Day One
- Open Day One on your Mac (or iPhone/iPad).
- Go to Settings → Export.
- Choose the export format and save the .zip file it gives you. That ZIP contains your journal entries as JSON plus your photos.
Step 2: Import into KringP-Cortex
- Open KringP-Cortex and go to Settings → Import past entries.
- Select Day One.
- Upload the .zip file. That's it.
KringP-Cortex reads the ZIP, preserves your original dates, and creates one entry per journal entry. You'll see a count of imported and skipped entries when it's done.
What transfers over
- Entry text — the full body of every entry, exactly as written.
- Original dates — your entries keep their real dates, not the import date. A 2019 entry stays a 2019 entry.
- Tags — your Day One tags carry over.
- Location — place names and coordinates where Day One recorded them.
- Photos — images attached to entries are imported and shown on the entry, just as they were.
What to know
- Duplicates are skipped. If you import the same file twice, entries that already exist won't be duplicated — they're matched by date and content.
- Imported entries are searchable. Every imported entry goes through the same AI enrichment as new entries, so chintu can answer questions from your entire imported history.
- Large journals take a moment. The import runs during the upload; very large journals (thousands of entries with photos) may take a few minutes.
Coming from something else?
KringP-Cortex also imports from Diarium, Journey, Diaro, Daylio, Evernote, and Apple Journal — same Settings → Import flow, just pick your source. Export instructions for each are shown right in the app.
Why people switch
KringP-Cortex is free — no subscriptions, no paid tiers. Your entries are processed privately, never sent to third-party AI companies. And it's built for the long game: not just today's entry, but a multi-generational archive your family can keep. Your past comes with you; your future stays yours. Start here.
